Everyone knows that dragons love treasure, but less well known is the fact that dragons of the bookwyrm variety actually prefer books to gold. Particularly books with dragons in them. So here is a Bookwyrm\u2019s top five books with dragons!<\/p>

1. A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan<\/h2>

In this cosy adventure, we follow the escapades of Isabella Camherst, a young woman who lives in fantasy world inspired by the Victorian era of great explorers, scientists and archaeologists. This book is the first instalment in the series and follows Isabella\u2019s younger days on her first expedition as she begins her journey towards becoming a dragon naturalist. It is a tale of scientific discovery, conspiracy and one young woman\u2019s battle against the expectations of her society. This has got to be one of my all time favourite books. The way it is written is so witty and engaging and the world that has been created is so amazingly realistic. It has the feel of a good old fashioned adventure. This book is for anyone who loves dragons, explorers, scientists, archaeology, mystery or simply a great read!<\/p>

2. Eragon by Christopher Paolini<\/h2>

This book is about a boy called Eragon who becomes the first of a new generation of Dragon Riders. The story follows his journey from a small village on the edge of the Empire as he encounters magic, dangerous creatures, battles, mysteries and a cast of characters including elves, dwarves, men, urgals, werecats, witches, and rebels. This story is a classic epic adventure filled with magic, quests, and battles. The setting is vast, filled with wondrous places, varied cultures, and legends of the past. Paolini\u2019s writing draws you into the story and characters, and makes you want to keep reading until the very last page.<\/p>

3. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien<\/h2>

This classic tale follows the unexpected adventures of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he joins a company of thirteen dwarves on their quest to reclaim their treasure from the dragon Smaug. It\u2019s a wonderful tale of adventure, friendship, riddles, battles and treasure! The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings were inspired by an old Viking saga known as the V\u00f6lsunga saga (Saga of the Volsungs), which features the mythological Norse dragon Fafnir.<\/p>

4. Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis<\/h2>

This book is one of the beloved Chronicles of Narnia and follows the Pevensie children, Edmund and Lucy, along with their cousin Eustace as they journey across the seas with King Caspian on his ship the Dawn Treader. They encounter various islands during their travels including one that they end up naming dragon island. I won\u2019t say too much more in case of spoilers, but you can be assured of a great dragon moment on this island!<\/p>

5. His Majesty\u2019s Dragon by Naomi Novik<\/h2>

Think the Napoleonic Wars then add aerial combat from the backs of dragons. This book follows the story of Captain Will Laurence who goes from seafarer to dragon master, all while trying to stop France from invading Britain. If you like historical fantasy or are looking for a different take on the classic dragon rider trope, then this might just be the series for you!<\/p>
