The designs are all retro in style, with silhouetted natural landscapes in front of gradient colour stripes. They are clearly inspired by the beauty and colour of nature. But at Wild Word, we love the stories woven into the natural world. The stories that makes these incredible places all the more meaningful. So of course, each design also has a link to a story!

I Want to See Mountains

“I want to see mountains” is part of a much-loved line from The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien in which the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins expresses to the wizard Gandalf his longing to see mountains again and relive (at least in memory) some of his adventures. I think this line resonates with so many people because of that deep longing inside that we all have for things of beauty and majesty. Mountains capture this feeling so well! Ultimately, I believe the thing we are truly longing for is God and the mountains in their grandeur reflect a tiny piece of His glory.

I want to see mountains again, Gandalf, mountains, and then find somewhere where I can rest. In peace and quiet, without a lot of relatives prying around, and a string of confounded visitors hanging on the bell. I might find somewhere where I can finish my book. I have thought of a nice ending for it: and he lived happily ever after to the end of his days.

Walk in Woodland Halls

“Walk in Woodland Halls” is not a direct quote from anything but the term “Woodland Halls” comes from a poem/song from The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien called the Song of the Ent and the Entwife. It is a beautiful poem of simple rhyme in which the Ent sings to the Entwife, asking her to come home to his land, but she doesn’t come because she is in another land. The song expresses a deep longing for something lost. Here is the excerpt that speaks of Woodland Halls:

When Summer lies upon the world, and in a noon of gold

Beneath the roof of sleeping leaves the dreams of trees unfold

When woodland halls are green and cool, and wind is in the West

Come back to me! Come back to me, and say my land is best!

Where Sky and Water Meet

“Where sky and water meet” is an excerpt from a rhyme spoken by the mouse Reepicheep in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader by CS Lewis. It is a rhyme that hints towards the location of Aslan’s country, beyond the ocean in the utter east. Again, this is a poem that expresses a deep longing for something just out of reach, beyond the horizon.

Where sky and water meet

Where the waves grow sweet

Doubt not, Reepicheep

To find all you seek

There is the utter East.

Welcome to Wild Word!
